Postpartum
The stage nobody fully prepares you for, and the one that changes everything
Postpartum is probably the most invisible stage of the perinatal journey. All the attention shifts to the baby, and the person who has just given birth slips into the background — emotionally, physically and socially.
The reality of postpartum includes extreme exhaustion, intense hormonal changes, a reorganisation of identity, a relationship being remade and an emotional rollercoaster that is usually ridden alone. This is not weakness: it is the natural consequence of one of the deepest transitions in life.
What happens during this phase
Postpartum loneliness
After the first visits and the excitement of birth, many people find themselves alone facing an overwhelming reality. Sleepless nights, a baby who needs you without pause and the disappearance of the life you had can create a deep loneliness.
Emotional difficulties
Postpartum sadness, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, irritability or feeling disconnected from the baby are far more common than anyone talks about. They are not a failure: they are signals that deserve professional attention.
Your relationship after the birth
A baby transforms a relationship. Priorities change, intimacy shifts, new conflicts and silent resentments can appear. Caring for the relationship in postpartum means caring for the foundation of the family.
Identity and loss
Postpartum involves rebuilding who you are. There is a silent grief for the person you were before, for your freedom, for the body you had, for your routines. This grief is legitimate, and it needs room.
How I support you during this phase
Postpartum support adapts to the reality of this stage — flexible, close and without judgement:
Offering a space where you can talk about how you feel without fear of being judged.
Working with the emotional difficulties of postpartum: sadness, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, disconnection.
Working on the bond with the baby when it does not feel the way you expected.
Supporting you through the change in identity and the grief for what is gone.
Helping you and your partner rebuild the relationship after the birth.
Postpartum is not a recovery period: it is a stage in its own right, and it deserves the same attention, care and support as any other time of life.
